Dual Enrollment Process
for Northampton Area High School 11th and 12th Graders in cooperation with Northampton Community College
The Northampton Konkrete Kids Educational Foundation sponsors the Dual Enrollment Program at Northampton Area High School. This Dual Enrollment Program is a partnership between Northampton High School and Northampton Community College which enables 11th- and 12th-grade students in “good academic standing” to enroll in college-level courses while still enrolled in classes at the high school, and to receive both college and high school graduation credits for the college courses they successfully complete.
There are several benefits for students taking college courses while still enrolled in high school.
-
Dual Enrollment Program students better understand the academic expectations for college and post-high school education.
-
Saving money on tuition is another benefit for both the students and their parents since the Konkrete Kids Educational Foundation is committed to providing funding to help defer some of the costs for each enrolled student who successfully completes coursework.
-
Students enrolled in the program save time by taking college courses in place of high school electives, thus earning both college credits and high school graduation credits at the same time.
The Konkrete Kids Educational Foundation receives funding for the Dual Enrollment Program through the Educational Tax Credit (EITC) Program sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. The tax credit enables approved EITC businesses to be directly involved in education and to support local non-profit organizations while earning approved tax credits. The Foundation utilizes its allocated funds and additional monies from Foundation sponsored fundraisers to support the Dual Enrollment Program.
Students and parents interested in getting more information about the Dual Enrollment Program should contact their guidance counselor at Northampton High School. The counselors will work with the students to guarantee that the Program meets a student’s academic needs and fits into the academic schedule for the upcoming year.
